A new welcome centre for Wisbech’s historic Corn Exchange has opened its doors to the public. The former Bonmarche store on High Street in Wisbech is the base of the centre, which will be open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11am until 3pm until December 16, with special events happening each month.
The Wisbech Corn Exchange Conservation Trust was founded in 2017 to preserve and restore the Grade II listed North Brink building to provide contemporary multi-purpose facilities for all to enjoy. Its wonderful history includes hosting The Rolling Stones, Jerry Lee Lewis and Shirley Bassey.
On Thursday the nearby centre opened for a preview for supporters of the Trust. Visitors included Wisbech Mayor and Mayoress Peter Human and Janet Tanfield, volunteers, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire Dr. Bharat N Khetani and his wife Pritty Khetani, representatives of Wisbech and Fenland Museum and Peckover House, an architect from Swann Edwards, and many more organisations in the area.
